Acusensus does not hand out fines or collect fine revenue. We are a Business-to-Government (B2G) Company, which means we work collaboratively with our government clients to provide road safety technology tailored to the needs of specific jurisdictions. Infringement notices are issued and collected by the government and go to respective government bodies or municipalities that implement the enforcement systems, not to Acusensus.

Fines are typically invested to further a government body’s road safety strategies, aiming to create safer roads and reduce road trauma. For example, all safety camera fines in Western Australia are paid into the Road Trauma Trust Account – these funds are utilised for road safety initiatives.

Heads-Up captures high-resolution, prosecutable evidence of illegal driver behaviour, 24/7 and in all weather conditions. It is built on a live production system approved for criminal enforcement – making it an effective tool to drive behavioural change across the road network.

Heads-Up is designed with the following principles:

• Capture images that are unaffected by sunlight and glare.
• Capture images with extremely high clarity and without blur at up to 300 km/h.
• Capture multiple images, so that phone use can be seen from multiple angles.
• Capture video to show contextual information.

Acusensus believes in providing solutions that can provide the maximum road safety effect through the efficient use of resources. While fixed enforcement installations provide an obvious overt deterrent effect, a key capability of Acusensus is the design and deployment of transportable solutions for anywhere-anytime enforcement.

Trailer solutions have key advantages over other deployment methods, such as:

• Extended deployment times via battery/solar/generator combinations to suit the client use cases. Deployment can be conducted for days, weeks or months at a given location.
• Designed to be towed to a nominated location, deployed and then left unattended to operate.
• Reduced health & safety risks for operators. Past experience has shown that personnel sitting in enforcement cars were often endangered by the public and motorists.
• Enhanced deployment capabilities by allowing solutions to be raised on telescopic masts. This is particularly relevant for the deployment of illegal mobile phone use camera solutions.
• Constantly monitored security solutions to provide vandalism resistance.

Since Heads-Up’s inception in 2018, the patented technology has been enhanced to simultaneously provide enforcement of other offences including seatbelt non-compliance, driver speeding at a set point or over a distance and automatic number plate recognition to detect unregistered vehicles and vehicles being driven in closed lanes of freeways.

Acusensus has successfully grown our customer base since 2019 with a track record of customers exercising extensions, adding modules or increasing units. Our current customers in Australia are Transport for New South Wales, Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, Main Roads Western Australia, the Australian Rail Track Corporation, the ACT Government and the South Australia Government.

In the United States, Acusensus is currently running programs in Georgia, Arkansas and North Carolina. Additionally, we have collaborated with National Highways in the UK on various data collection initiatives. Notably, Acusensus has established a long-term program in Devon & Cornwall, making it the first county in the UK to implement Heads-Up on a continuous basis.

At Acusensus, we uphold rigorous standards to protect the security, confidentiality and integrity of data. We maintain a comprehensive global privacy program and an information security framework with the industry-recognised Information Security Management Systems (ISO/IEC 27001:2002) standard from the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).

Acusensus products incorporate sophisticated privacy and security protections including features as detailed below:

• Typically 99% of captured images are deleted and never seen by a human.
• Evidence packages are encrypted and digitally signed on-site using the public component of the customer’s secret decryption key.
• Images going to the first stage human review process are automatically cropped and anonymised. Image reviewers do not possess the ability to identify the location, time or day, registration or other occupants of the vehicle.
• Offence images going to further stages of review are typically automatically blurred such that only the offending occupant can be seen (restricting the ability to see occupants not involved in the commission of an offence). Full original evidence is typically accessed only if images are presented for court purposes.

Acusensus uses AI to identify which images are likely to contain offences (such as drivers holding phones or passengers not wearing seatbelts), to determine whether those images should be checked by reviewers to confirm (or discard) each potential offence.

Acusensus does not use generative AI and does not modify the original images captured by the cameras. These images are encrypted and digitally signed on-site (at the roadside), ensuring that they cannot be manipulated in any way before being delivered to the jurisdiction responsible for the local road safety program.
